We, Filipinos, actually has several terminologies that we uncommonly utilized in communicating and interacting to each other. However, the truth is that we forgot the word witch and as a result, we no longer use it. With the current situation of the languages in our country, it is unavoidable that some pure Filipino terms will be overlaid and replaced with what we often use as a foreign language. To make things clearer, I’ve compiled a list of 10 uncommonly Filipino words, their definitions, and how to use them correctly in a sentence. So brush up on your vocabulary and read carefully.
1. Butukan(Small store) – A business establishment where usually diversified goods are kept for retail sale.
Example: Napagtapos niya ang kaniyang mga anak ng dahil sa kanilang butukan.
2.. Dagibalniing-liboy(Electromagnetic Wave) – One of the waves that are propagated by simultaneous periodic variations of electric and magnetic field intensity and that include radio waves,infrared,visible light,ultraviolet,x-rays,and gamma rays.
Example : Ang paksa namin nagyon ay tungkol sa dagibalniing-liboy.
3. Sentido komon (Common sense) – Sound and prudent judgment based on a simple perception of the situation or facts.
Example: Hindi naman tama iyang ginagawa mo. Magkaroon ka naman ng sentido komon
4. Marahuyo (Magical or Extraordinary) – Beautiful or delightful in such a way as to seem removed from everyday life.:
Exmple Napanood mo na ba ang palabas na kung saan ang mga karakter ay naglalakbay sa isang marahuyong gubat?
5. Kalantare (Flirting) – Is a social and sometimes sexual activity involving verbal or written communication as well as body language by one person to another, either to suggest interest in a deeper relationship with the other person, or if done playfully, for amusement.
Example: Akala mo true love na, yun pala kalantare ka lang niya.
6.Ilaya (Farm) – An area of land that is devoted primarily to agricultural processes with the primary objective of producing food and other crops; it is the basic facility in food production.
Example: Sariwa ang hangin sa ilaya.
7. Palautatan (Statistics) – A branch of mathematics dealing with the collection, analysis, interpretation, and presentation of masses of numerical data.
Example : Walang palautatan kung ilang kabataan ang lulong sa droga.
8.Karumlan(Menstruation) – Is normal vaginal bleeding that occurs as part of a woman’s monthly cyclle.
Example : Nangangailangang maunawaan ng mga batang babae ang konsepto ng karumalan upang sila ay mahanda na.
9. Pulot-gata (Honeymoon) – Is the traditional holiday taken by newlyweds to celebrate their marriage in intimacy and seclusion.
Example: Pumunta sa isang sikat na hotel ang bagong kasal para sa kanilang pulot-gata.
10. Miktinig (Microphone) – An instrument whereby sound waves are caused to generate or modulate an electric current usually for the purpose of transmitting or recording sound (as speech or music).
Example: Gumamit ako ng miktinig sa aking pag-uulat para marinig sa lahat kung ano ang aking sasabihin.
